Volunteers are the heart of hospice care. Hospice care was founded on the work of volunteers and that tradition in hospice continues today. Our program matches the skills and desires of the volunteer with an opportunity to reach out and support the needs of patients and families and all the resources the volunteer will need to make this a rewarding experience.
We have many different volunteer opportunities available, including but not limited to the following:
Patient and caregiver support: read to a patient, music and arts at their bedside, companionship, life review, telephone contact, run errands, shopping, assist with light household chores
Bereavement support: telephone contact, writing bereavement notes, in person contact
Administrative support: filing, copying, data entry, preparing materials for new patients
If you’re interested in volunteering or have any questions about the process, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator John Scanlon at john.scanlon@pilgrimagehc.com or feel free to call 412.489.6874
